Die Firma entstand 1985 (Geschichte) als Filmproduktion der Firmengründer Leslie Franke und Herdolor Lorenz. Mittlerweile ist die Kern Filmproduktion Produzent für Projekte verschiedenster Filmemacher von dokumentarischen Werken.

Die Kern Filmproduktion produziert neben eigenen Projekten zahlreiche Filme in Kooperation mit anderen Filmemachern und Autoren. Wenn vorrecherchierte Vorschläge uns unterstützenswert erscheinen, organisieren wir die Finanzierung. Since the non-profit status of housing has been abolished almost everywhere in Europe, housing is no longer considered a human right. Now the market decides where people live. This has established an unprecedented system of destruction of affordable housing that is dividing our society at its core.

In Germany in general, and particularly in the major cities, more people traditionally rent than own their own home. In Berlin, the figure is as high as 82%. These people are increasingly under threat.Neoliberal policies since the turn of the millennium, but then above all the financial crisis, are the cause of this development. Since then, a great deal of international capital has centred around so-called concrete gold. Comparatively good tenant protection in Germany has been increasingly watered down for the benefit of capital. Since then, it has no longer been about housing, but about investment.

On the one hand, "SOLD CITY" shows the causes of this property boom, how those affected experience it and how we can defend ourselves. But we also look beyond the horizon to Vienna and highly capitalist Singapore.Here we find an exemplary housing policy - sensible and conceivable here in Germany too?

Banks, funds and international investment capital are pushing into the cities.Hardly anyone seems safe from the sale of their flat. When it comes to cashing in, the only people who get in the way are the tenants. This is how Daniel Dieckmann from Habersaathstrasse in Berlin puts it.The police cover up for the owners and their sometimes criminal methods when it comes to evicting tenants and forcing them out.

Housing is a public service and a human right.However, politicians seem to be completely abandoning their duty to provide. Social housing construction has been dwindling in the service of private investors for decades despite billions in subsidies. What is the situation like in other major cities such as London or Vienna, where investor capital is also circling?

On the one hand, we link this to the demand of the popular initiative "Deutsche Wohnen & Co" for the expropriation of large housing groups. On the other hand, we are looking beyond the confines of housing policy to other countries. In London, the situation for tenants is even worse. Anna Minton, author and lecturer, describes the displacement of the working population no longer as gentrification, but as the sterilisation of cities. Only in Vienna does it seem to be easy for private investors to build two thirds of the flats as subsidised flats and the tenants are safe for the rest of their lives. Why is that not possible here? Land is a limited commodity. When there is a lot of "free capital" circling above the ground, land prices explode. This is exactly what has happened since the financial crisis. An unsolvable problem? We look at Singapore, a highly capitalist city state. There, however, 86% of the population live in communal housing. A land expropriation law makes this possible.Why shouldn't it work here too?
